Sun Canopy Tents

by Liz Ornellas

Summer is fast approaching, and with it, the desire to spend more time outdoors in the warm weather is growing. Those with patios will be looking forward to their first outdoor grill party, and kids will look forward to playing in the backyard. To heighten your enjoyment of the outdoors this summer, consider the benefits of sun canopies, which provide shelter and comfort during the summer months.

Sun canopy tents come is many different styles, sizes, and designs. Their basic function is to provide a degree of shade during the day, as well as shelter, not only from the sun, but also from light summer showers. They come in the form of gazebos, temporary structures, and even in the simple form of patio or beach umbrellas.

Canopies and tents have long been enjoyed as a means of providing shade on especially hot, sunny days. They not only provide comfort however; with heightened awareness about the negative effects of excessive sun exposure being advocated in the media, a sun shade canopy can also provide that very necessary protection against sun stroke, sunburn, and the multiple long-term effects of sun exposure such as skin cancer and premature ageing. It can allow you to enjoy the heat of the sun, and the fresh outdoor air, without exposing yourself unnecessarily.

Some of the popular ways in which a sun canopy tent may be used include the following: An outdoor picnic structure, under which one or more picnic tables can be placed; a shady area in which to set up hammocks or outdoor chairs for reading and lounging; and a shelter under which beach items and towels can be stored when not in use, and during summer showers. It is even possible to find a sun shade tent with screen walls, allowing the structure to double as a sheltered gazebo, keep insects and other pests out, and allowing individuals to enjoy the outdoors even after the sun has set.

If you do not have a backyard or grassy area on which to set up a sun shade canopy, consider allocating part of your deck or patio space for the purpose. The back deck or patio is another one of those optimal outdoor spaces in the summer, which can lead to excessive sun exposure. By installing sun canopy tents over areas such as your patio, deck, or pool side you will have the freedom to enjoy those areas even on the hottest of days. If you happen to have a barbeque grill in any of these areas, you will especially appreciate the cooler shaded area while grilling.
