Outdoor Canopy Tent

by Liz Ornellas

Spring is here. You may be making preparations for an Easter family gathering or a large graduation party in a couple of months. How are you going to protect your planned events for the unpredictable forces of Mother Nature?  If you owned an outdoor canopy tent, you wouldn’t even have to consider weather as a problem. All you have to do is pick a size that will comfortable accommodate the size of your family, put it up, decorate it and enjoy all of your year round planned or unplanned family events.

Canopies come in standard sizes from 5′ x 5′ to 18′ x 40′. A quick rule of thumb is to buy the canopy 5 feet larger than the space you want to cover.  You should also consider room for growth when choosing an outdoor tent canopy size because most families grow in members and friends during the life of a canopy.  You can also choose to add a second canopy later if there is a need for additional shelter to accommodate your growing family.

When you begin shopping for one of the many options of outdoor canopy tents that are out there, you will have to also decide on a color and style that will best fit the function or design of the space you are trying to create. Stick to a style and color that is not too themed so you can periodically or easily change the accessories to match the various events you may participate in. You can even add sidewall extensions if you feel that privacy is lacking in your neighborhood.  The sidewall extensions can be screens, fabric panels, vinyl windows or zippered doors.  The extensions can be color-coordinated to match or blend with the existing canopy.

On a windy day you may need extra stability. You can get weight bags or metal stakes to anchor down the outdoor canopies, tents, and awnings. Most canopies come with a handy compact carrying bag so you can store or transport your canopy when needed. You should have no problem taking your tent along on road trips to the beach, camping, or for an afternoon at a local park.

Some of the marvelous modern outdoor tent canopies you see for sale today have a unique UV resistant fabric. The fabric effectively blocks the UV rays of the sun and protects the people within. Most fabrics are constructed in such a way that they allow cool breezes to blow through but prevent the sun energy from penetrating.

Metal frame canopies are the most durable. The superior and more expensive steel frame offers consumers a corrosion free, lightweight and incredibly strong shelter.  Even though the materials are sturdier, they still come with an easy to install and take down frame. The legs and center poles usually operate with a thumb release button.  The legs adjust to different lengths so you can easily adjust the height of the shelter to meet your needs.

There is nothing that says summer is here as much as investing in a new outdoor canopy tent for your backyard. Canopies extend your indoor living space to the outdoors and allow you to enjoy a pool, deck, or patio area regardless of the outdoor weather. The sun and rain is no match for modern canopy products and materials of today.
